Hello! I am a Ph.D. student in Operations Research, working with the amazing Prof. Agostino Capponi at Columbia University.

Previously, I was a SCAI (Societal impact through Cloud and Artificial Intelligence) Research Fellow at Microsoft Research Lab India. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (IIT-ISM).

Interests 🔖

My current research interests lie at the intersection of Energy Systems and Technology for Emerging Markets, with a focus on AI/ML applications in power systems, smart grid optimization, and reinforcement learning for energy market design, resource adequacy, and demand-side management.

Past Research Works 🔍

At Microsoft Research (MSR), I worked on Project Vasudha under the guidance of Dr. Akshay Nambi, Tanuja Ganu, and Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman. My research focused on applying machine learning for optimization and control of distributed energy resources (DERs) in high-renewable power grids. I explored reinforcement learning, stochastic optimization, and discrete optimization techniques to solve physics-driven constraints in power systems.

As a SCAI Fellow, I also worked on translating research prototypes into early-stage deployable solutions for Microsoft partners, collaborating closely with Dr. Kalyanaraman’s Azure Energy & Mobility team.

My broader research in AI for Social Good has spanned projects tackling real-world societal challenges, including:

• Addressing range anxiety for EV drivers
• Enhancing maritime coastal security with deep learning
• Scheduling batteries to reduce consumer carbon footprints
• Optimizing renewable resource scheduling to benefit energy providers
• Detecting fault location and type in active distribution networks

Outside of Research 🎨🏏🎶

Outside of research, I enjoy playing cricket, table tennis, and pool. Playing table tennis during the respite hours at the MSR office was a pure source of enjoyment and relaxation — a great way to recharge and return to work with fresh energy.

I also love painting and sketching in my leisure time. Please head over to the gallery to see some of my sketches. I completed my 5th year (Senior Diploma) in Painting with Distinction and was part of the Art Freaks Core Team at IIT-ISM.

In addition, I have formal training in harmonium and completed the 3rd year in vocal classical music with First Division. Although I’m not an active vocalist now, I still enjoy listening to music whenever I can.
